Adipose tissue composition changes presented at Obesity Week 2026

Adipose tissue is at the centre of obesity, type 2 diabetes and a range of other metabolic diseases. Adipose tissue is recognised a dynamic, metabolically active endocrine organ with many important functions that can greatly impact overall health.

Beyond simply changing in volume, there are other ways that adipose tissue can change over time. Adipose tissue composition has been shown to change with weight loss and intervention. At Obesity Week 2026, Lars Johansson, CSO at Antaros Medical, will be presenting research looking at how adipose tissue composition, measured through adipose tissue fat fraction, also changes with ageing. This adds important insights to our evolving understanding of what is happening underneath the lost kilos.
