Antaros Medical science to be presented at ISMRM & ISMRT Annual Meeting

Antaros Medical will be represented on two abstracts at the upcoming International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and International Society for MR Radiographers & Technologists (ISMRT) Annual Meeting and Exhibition. This year’s meeting takes place from May 4-9 in Singapore.

There is an unmet need for kidney biomarkers that can improve prediction of renal decline, especially in early stages of disease. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) biomarkers have great potential to non-invasively assess functional and morphologic, including fibrotic, changes in the kidney.

The abstract ‘3D Kidney Segmentation in MRI using Transformers’ will be presented as an oral Power Pitch as part of the session Man & Machine: Progress in Body Applications. It describes research evaluating kidney segmentation using a newer technique that had not previously been evaluated in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The images used were collected as part of the ongoing iBEAt study of the Biomarker Enterprise to Attack Diabetic Kidney Disease (BEAt-DKD) Project. The iBEAt study is a prospective, multi-centre, observational cohort study of 500 patients with early stages of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) to evaluate the utility of imaging biomarkers.

A second abstract, ‘Technical recommendations for renal DCE-MRI: preliminary results from the consensus project of the ISMRM Renal MR study group’, will be presented as a digital poster. Paul Hockings, Senior Director MR at Antaros Medical, is part of the panel of experts to advise on the technical recommendations for using renal dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI). DCE-MRI can be a useful tool for assessing kidney hemodynamics and function, and the purpose of this project is to develop a reference paper to guide its use. Previously, under PARENCHIMA (now RENALMRI.org), technical recommendations for several other MRI methods were developed through similar consensus initiatives.
